چکیده

In the low-density surface region of superfluid 4He, the atoms are far apart and collisions can be ignored. The only effect of the interactions is from the long-range attractive Hartree potential produced by the distant high-density bulk liquid. As a result, at T = 0, all the atoms occupy the same singleparticle state in the low-density tail. Striking numerical evidence for this 100% surface BEC was given by Pandharipande and coworkers in 1988. We derive a generalized Gross-Pitaevskii equation for the inhomogeneous condensate wave function Φ(z) in the low-density region valid at all temperatures. The overall amplitude of Φ(z) is fixed by the bulk liquid, which ensures that it vanishes everywhere at the bulk transition temperature.

Superfluidity versus Anderson localization in a dilute Bose gas.

We consider the motion of a quasi-one-dimensional beam of Bose-Einstein condensed particles in a disordered region of finite extent. Interaction effects lead to the appearance of two distinct regions of stationary flow. One is subsonic and corresponds to superfluid motion. The other one is supersonic and dissipative and shows Anderson localization. We compute analytically the interaction-depend...

Renormalization group theory of the three-dimensional dilute Bose gas.

We study the three-dimensional atomic Bose gas using renormalization group techniques. Using our knowledge of the microscopic details of the interatomic interaction, we determine the correct initial values of our renormalization group equations and thus obtain also information on nonuniversal properties. As a result, we can predict for instance the critical temperature of the gas and the superf...

Bose Condensation and Superfluidity in Finite Rotating Bose Systems

A long standing problem in the theory of superfluidity concerns the question of how close is the connection between Bose condensation and superfluidity[1]. For the case of superfluid He, the Bose condensate fraction is quite small (if not virtually zero), yet the superfluid fraction goes to unity in the limit of low temperatures T → 0. For the superfluid He case, the observation of superfluidit...

Superfluidity of the 1D Bose gas Superfluidité du gaz de Bose 1D

We have investigated the superfluid properties of a ring of weakly interacting and degenerate 1D Bose gas at thermal equilibrium with a rotating vessel. The conventional definition of superfluidity predicts that the gas has a significant superfluid fraction only in the Bose condensed regime. In the opposite regime, it is found that a superfluid behaviour can still be identified when the probabi...
